Annan's play will be critical for Ghana now that star player Michael Essien is out because of injury. The defensive midfielder, one of the team's best coverage players, will have to step up in some of his first major international play. Annan debuted at the senior international level in 2007 and has played in two African Cup of Nations tournament. This, however, will be his first appearance in the World Cup. One of the club's brightest young players, Annan is considered the future for Ghana soccer. After beginning his career as a flashy player that many feared was more show than substance, he is now willing to do the little things to help the team and prides himself on his discipline. He currently plays for the Norwegian club Rosenborg. Possessing plenty of energy, Annan is expected to be a regular contributor over the next month.
