The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Wednesday because the team had not announced the deal. MLB.com was first to report the deal, expected to be worth $72 million.
Analysis: Gordon was the second overall pick of the Royals in 2005, and went through years of growing pains before finally becoming a star. He's become not only one of the best defensive outfielders in the game with four Gold Gloves to his resume, but also a consistent hitter and clubhouse leader.

Analysis: Gordon was racing back on Logan Forsythe's fly ball in the fourth inning when his left leg twisted gruesomely near the warning track. He collapsed to the ground and lay there as Forsythe rounded the bases for an inside-the-park homer.
