Costa's agent, George Mavrikes, said Friday his client would look to compete for a starting job elsewhere after rookie first-round pick Travis Frederick started all 16 games last year. Costa was the starter in 2011.
Analysis: The Costa move saves the Cowboys $1.5 million on the salary cap. They were slightly less than $1 million over the cap after restructuring the contracts of quarterback Tony Romo, linebacker Sean Lee and cornerback Orlando Scandrick earlier this week.

Analysis: Costa's agent, George Mavrikes, told The Associated Press on Saturday that Costa's $2.7 million, two-year deal includes a $450,000 signing bonus for $950,000 guaranteed this season. Costa played in only three games last season, missing most of training camp with a back issue that he re-aggravated in the season opener. He played two games in October before needing season-ending ankle surgery.
