NAISMITH STARS IN LOSS An energetic display from Steven Naismith couldn't stop unlucky Rangers falling to a 4-1 defeat against Sevilla at Ibrox. The striker was left wondering what might have been after he was clearly felled in the box, but the referee looked away, uninterested. The Scottish Champions dominated the first-half, but they failed to get their noses in front. The second-half was a different story and it was the man that fouled Naismith, Abdoulay Konko, who gave the Spanish side the opening goal. The home-side rallied with Sasa Papac not quite able to reach a Steven Whittaker cross, but were caught by a sucker punch when Adriano finished well. Sevilla went on to score two more before Nacho Novo score a late consolation goal, but it was Naismith who deserved it for all his hard work.

FULL-TIME An unlucky night draws to an end for Rangers.
90'
MISERY NEARLY OVER Not long left for Rangers fans to endure as we enter injury time.
87'
GGOOAALL!! A beautiful goal and it gives Rangers some joy. Novo cuts inside on to his right-foot and smacks a stunning shot into the far side of the goal. The home side deserve that.
84'
RANGERS TIRE The adrenaline and hope has dropped out of the home side. It is a depressing site following the snappy first-half.
81'
SEVILLA STROLLING The away side have taken the pace out of the game as they look to conserve energy for their domestic game at the weekend.
78'
IBROX GOES QUIET The Rangers fans must be wondering what might have been and a lot of anger could well be directed at the referee, after the first-half denial of a stone-wall penalty.
76'
BIG CHANCE Boyd is played through but he can`t get a consolation goal as his shot is well saved.
75'
SEVILLA SUBSTITUTION Kanouté trotts off, having hardly broken sweat, and on comes Negredo.
74'
GGOOAALL!! Even worse for the home side. Rangers have had the heart knocked out of their game and are now four down. Fabiano finds his striker partner Kanoute and the ex-Spurs striker rolls it into the net.
73'
RANGERS SUBSTITUTION McCulloch is replaced by Kris Boyd and Jerome Rothen by Nacho Novo.
72'
GGOOAALL!! Sevilla are now rampant. Kanoute beats his man and gets to the deadball line. The cross is hung up to the far post and Whittaker is too slow so Fabiano heads home. All that good Rangers work of the first-half is completely undone.
68'
ROTHEN QUIET The left-winger was at the heart of some of the best play in the first-half, but since the break Rothen has hardly been in the game.
68'
ROTHEN QUIET The left-winger was at the heart of some of the best play in the first-half, but since the break Rothen has hardly been in the game.
65'
SEVILLA SUBSTITUTION That finish was Adriano's final touch as he is replaced by Diego Capel.
64'
GGOOAALL!! That could be all over as Sevilla go two up. Some great play ends with a clinical finish from Adriano, who fires past the despairing dive of the 'keeper.
62'
TIME TO TAKE A CHANCE The pressure is now on the Rangers' manager to try and change this to force an equaliser, but his side are playing well so could a substitution upset their flow?
59'
NAISMITH'S ENERGY Still Rangers keep pushing and at the forefront is Naismith. The striker is coming short, sprinting into the channels and hassling defenders.
56'
THOMSON! McCulloch wants to shoot but overhits his control, so he passes to Thomson. The midfielder hits a stunning shot, which the 'keeper can only touch over.
54'
PAPAC CHANCE I nearly spoke to soon there as Rangers come again. Whittaker whacks a great cross in, after being found by Naismith, but Papac can`t finish it at the far post.
53'
SEVILLA IN CONTROL That goal has given the away side the confidence they needed and they have seized the game. Rangers look a bit shell-shocked.
50'
GGOOAALL!! Rangers switch off from a free-kick and Konko heads it in. An absolute hammer blow for the home side.
49'
AWFUL DECISION Another bizarre piece of refereeing as Erikkson gives a goal-kick when a defender clearly heads a Rangers cross into touch.
47'
FREE-KICK Early chance for Rangers from a free-kick, but McCulloch's header goes over. The midfielder should have done better there.
46'
SECOND-HALF We are back underway.
45'
RANGERS ON TOP Rangers should be in front – I didn't expect to be writing that at half-time. The big talking point is the penalty for a foul on Naismith, which the referee somehow managed to miss. The Scottish Champions have not just been too lively for Sevilla, but have utterly outclassed the Spanish side. What will the second-half hold?
45'
HALF-TIME A brilliant half is brought to an end by the referee.
43'
GAME SLOWS Finally, Ranges need something of a breather and the game drops in tempo. A great first-half though.
40'
RANGERS SURVIVE Bougherra makes a dreadful mistake, but McGregor saves him with a awesome stop. Navas gets to the rebound, but sends it over with the goal gaping.
38'
FANS INCENSED The home support is still angry after a clear penalty was denied by the referee. The players are also continuing to ask the referee why he didn`t give it.
36'
NO PENALTY Awful, awful decision. Naismith gets goal side of the defender and is clearly taken out in the penalty area, but the referee refuses to point to the spot.
35'
RANGERS CHANCE Davis goes on a one-man mission to destroy Sevilla as he goes on a 50-yard run, but Zakora blocks when Whittaker was through.
33'
SEVILLA STRUGGLING The in-form side look a shadow of their usual selves as they face a relentless Rangers. The Scottish Champions need to grab a goal while they are in this ascendency.
30'
BIG CHANCE The ball is slid across the six-yard box and Naismith gets in front of the defender and shapes to lay it off for one of three Rangers players waiting to blast the ball into the net, but the striker's touch is awful and the chance goes begging.
29'
DOUBLE TEAM Fabiano and Kanoute both put pressure on Weir, but end up taking the veteran out and the referee gives a free-kick.
28'
NAISMITH A PAIN The lone striker is being a thorn in the side of the Sevilla defence. He just won`t let them settle. The only problem is that he won`t be able to play like this for a whole 90.
25'
GREAT PASSING Rangers hit back with a fine move and it ends with McCulloch hitting a fine volley, which fizzes over.
24'
OWN WORST ENEMY Rangers have to concentrate. Again, sloppy play in midfield gifts Sevilla the ball, but Fabiano can`t find space.
22'
BIG CHANCE Some snapping midfield play backed-up by some quality movement nearly sees Rangers fashion a chance, but Whittaker blazes a cross hopelessly over Naismith.
21'
RANGERS LIVELY The home side have been impressive in the first 20 minutes of this game. Their running and energy is starting to unsettle Sevilla.
19'
ROW Z A ball comes out from a corner and drops nicely for Zakora, but the shot is high and wide. Spurs fans will have been used to that.
18'
WASTEFUL Mendes overhits an easy pass and Sevilla nearly manage to break. Rangers need to maintain concentration.
16'
WEIR LIMPING The centre-back has got a bit of a dead leg and appears to be suffering. Smith will be hoping Weir can run that off.
15'
GREAT SAVE Sevilla make the games first chance. Navas gets on the ball and finds Kanoute's run. The ex-Spurs striker brings the best out of McGregor.
13'
OFFSIDE Poor forward play from Navas as he times his run all wrong and the flag goes up. That is the second time he has been caught offside.
10'
MENDES CHANCE Some great interplay from Rangers and suddenly the home side drive forward. The ball finds Mendes and he has a decent chance, but scruffs the shot wide.
8'
ARM UP More poor officiating. Rothen attempts to go past the full-back, but the Sevilla player raises his arm and fells the winger. The referee waves play on.
7'
NAISMITH IN THE CHANNEL Mendes picks up the ball in a key area and flicks the ball through for the striker. Naismith can`t create a chance but he wins a throw in a decent position.
5'
RANGERS START WELL The home side have seen a decent amount of the ball so far. Smith has clearly drilled his players in keeping the ball and they must continue in this vain.
3'
SOFT REFEREEING Eriksson falls for something of a dive from the Sevilla right-back. If he gives a foul every time that happens then we could be in for a long match.
2'
POOR PLAY Naismith is going to have to do a lot better than that if Rangers are to get a result here. A ball is played into the striker but is headed knock down asks too much of the player it was aimed at.

KICK-OFF This Champions League group game is now underway.

SEVILLA TEAM NEWS Former West Ham striker Freddie Kanoute partners Fabiano in attack. However, four of Sevilla's players from Argentina are out due to injuries: Diego Perotti, Federico Fazio, Aldo Duscher, and Lautaro Acosta are all sidelined.
0'
RANGERS TEAM NEWS Pedro Mendes returns to the Rangers side after a domestic suspension. Both Steven Dais and Sasa Papac recover from injuries and start the match. Nacho Novo, Kenny Miller and John Fleck have to settle for places on the bench as Smith opts for a solitary attacker in Steven Naismith.

REF WATCH Dear old Wikipedia claims that Jonas Eriksson was once a member of seminal post-hardcore band, Refused, but we have our doubts – although if you are going to be a referee what a great name for your band! Eriksson is a newcomer to the Champions League having officiated his first game in the competition in December 2008.

FABIANO THE DANGER MAN The highly-rated Brazilian forward was linked with a host of top clubs in the summer but Sevilla fought them off to retain the services of the brilliant striker. He already has one goal in the group stages and will be looking to add more to that as he adds to his hefty reputation.

RANGERS NEED GOALS The Scottish champions have now gone four-and-a-half hours without a goal in their domestic league and face a tough test against Sevilla. The out of form Rangers side will be looking to rally and produce the kind of performance that forced a draw in Stuttgart.
0'
SEVILLA LOOK FOR VICTORY The third best side in Spain and favourites to qualify from Group G will be looking for a win despite being away in the second game of the Champions League group. Last time out they beat Unirea Urziceni 2-0 and they will be looking for a repeat performance to dent Rangers' hopes.

PREVIEW Rangers had a great start to their Champions League group with a draw away to Stuttgart, but it is difficult to predict anything other than a Sevilla win at Ibrox this evening. Walter Smith's side are struggling at the moment and the squad looks stretched as a result of the number of games that last season's success entails. Sevilla have won four of their five opening matches domestically, sitting third in La Liga behind Barcelona and Real. Surely the Spaniards will be too strong, even for a Rangers side at their stubborn best?
