Stony Brook overpowers Pace 77-7

STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) Kyle Essington threw two touchdowns and Stony Brook racked up 521 rushing yards in their 77-7 win over Division II Pace on Saturday.

The win gives Stony Brook its first 2-0 start since 2007.

Stony Brook, which scored touchdowns on its first 10 possessions, got touchdown passes of 9 and 86 yards from Essington.

Essington finished 6-of-6 passing for 158 yards before being replaced by Lyle Negron after halftime.

Running backs Marcus Coker and Miguel Maysonet tallied two touchdowns apiece in the first half and their replacement, Jamie Williams, scored from 11 yards to give the Seawolves a 49-0 lead at intermission.

Coker and Maysonet have combined for 382 yards on 53 carries (7.2 ypc) this season. Maysonet, who led the Big South with 1,633 yards last season, recorded 172 rushing yards in Stony Brook's season-opener.

Stony Brook outgained Pace (0-2) 603 to 104 and allowed just nine first downs.
